Mark Pierce is a singer/songwriter based at Stompbox Studios in York. With the impending release of his 'Sing' EP Mark needed a video to help get word out, but taking it one step further, we shifted location and recorded the whole thing live!
Setting up at a nearby barn hired for the day, we used controlled Bowens lighting to give depth and character to the location, and filmed for the first time using a Canon 7D DSLR backed up by the newly released Canon 60D. Each camera was used freehand, one with a 18 - 55m zoom for wide angles and the other with a 50mm 1.8f prime lens for excellent depth and focal shifts.
All six tracks can be viewed on Mark Pierce's YouTube channel MarkPierceMusic and the Sing E.P. is available now from iTunes Amazon UK and CD Baby.

Howard Dobson writes Christian songs, and this Easter has been visiting a different church service each day throughout lent. When The Times online blog picked up on this they were interested in running an article and he needed a fast turn around for a video and audio recording of his Easter track 'This is Jesus'. The song is written form Pilate's point of view as he condemns Jesus to death, and was performed by Mark Pierce with Sarah Atkin.
With only a day to shoot and edit, we recorded the track live at Stompbox Studios and filmed the performance, using a large window to provide a natural backlight and glow around Sarah as she represents Pilate's consience, and a studio front light to avoid blacking out the rest of the studio, we set up two Canon DSLR cameras on tripods and filmed with selective movements, one camera at a time. Post production was minimal with the time restrictions, but a well planned shoot delivered a great result.
